About Us
For more than 15 years, our community has shared a vision for a multi service center where families in need can receive basic human services.
In 2002 a number of residents felt the time had come to ease access to basic services in Ashland. To accomplish this, Area Charity Properties, Inc. DBA Neighbors Helping Neighbors was formed. Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a collaboration of established community nonprofit agencies serving the homeless and very low to moderate income residents of the Ashland Kentucky area.
Together these agencies have 
provided more the 100 years of community service.
In 2004, Neighbors Helping Neighbors purchased an existing building and began renovations.
Here are some of the highlights of our accomplishments:
- In 2004, NHN purchased the Johnson’s Dairy building, 2516 Carter Avenue, for $375,000.00.
The architectural firm of Shawn Walker & Associates designed the facility and oversaw the renovation work.- Renovations to the building included roof repair, major upgrades to the plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems, interior construction of separate spaces for partner organizations and installation of sky lights to provide natural light.
- With community support, we retired the original mortgage on the building in 2006.
- River Cities Harvest and CAReS moved into their finished spaces in 2007.
